Most of our jobs land between $10 and $15 per square foot of glass, with about $12 per square foot as our average. That is installed, with premium film, not a do-it-yourself kit.
We do not actually price by a flat square-foot rate. We use a formula that looks at the whole job, because two windows with the same square footage can take very different amounts of time and material. The square-foot range is a good way to set your expectations before we come out.
A quick way to estimate your own windows
Measure the glass (not the frame) in inches, multiply width by height, and divide by 144 to get square feet. Add up every window you want done, then multiply by $10, $12 and $15 to get a low, typical and high number.
For example, a common sliding door is about 6 feet wide by 8 feet tall, or 48 square feet. At our typical rate that is roughly $576, and between about $480 and $720 depending on the job.
What moves the price up or down
- The film. Our premium SPe Lite 70 and our go-to DR OptiTune films cost more than basic films, and they perform better.
- Access. Ground-floor windows are quick. Two-story glass, ladders, scaffolding or a lift add time and equipment cost.
- Interior or exterior. Exterior film, like the turf protection films, is installed differently and prices differently.
- Size and number of panes. One big pane is faster than ten small ones with the same total glass. Very large panes need wider rolls.
- Roll width and waste. Film comes in fixed roll widths. Our formula plans the cuts to keep waste low, which keeps your price down.
- Difficulty. Tight frames, grids, removing old film, or glass that is hard to reach all take longer.
- Job size. Larger jobs usually cost less per square foot.
