Our Coronado work is residential, on homes facing the ocean and the bay. It is the same kind of work we do in Rancho Santa Fe: mostly solar control film on large, valuable glass.
Homes here take sun from the sky and a second dose reflected off the water and the sand. Owners want to stop floors, rugs, furniture and art from fading, keep sunny rooms comfortable, and cut the glare that makes a water view hard to look at in the afternoon, all without losing the view.
What we install in Coronado
Both are Avery Dennison architectural films. The choice comes down to how much glare you want to cut and how untouched you want the glass to look.
A spectrally selective film that lets visible light through and blocks heat. The glass stays virtually clear, so the ocean or bay view looks exactly as it did.
Best for: View windows where heat and UV are the problem and the view comes first
Reflects heat away instead of soaking it into the glass, and cuts the glare coming off the water. Low interior reflection keeps rooms looking natural at night.
Best for: Water-facing rooms that overheat or glare in the afternoon
Performance figures are Avery Dennison published data on single-pane glass. Results on your windows depend on the glass type and orientation.
The glass out here
Rooms that look out over the water get direct sun plus glare bouncing off the surface. That combination is what fades furniture and makes a great room unusable in the late afternoon.
Coronado homes open up to decks, patios and courtyards through big sliders and French doors. French door panes are cut and fitted one by one so every edge is tight and even.
Many of the island’s homes are older and carefully kept, with original floors and furnishings worth protecting. Film adds UV and heat protection without replacing a single window.

Most homes here get one of two Avery Dennison films. SPe Lite 70 is virtually clear and still rejects 52% of the solar heat, so the ocean or bay view looks exactly the same. DR OptiTune 30 rejects 63% of the heat and cuts 63% of the glare, which makes it the stronger choice for glass that faces the water and takes sun all afternoon. We bring physical samples of both to the on-site visit.
Yes, and how much depends on the film. DR OptiTune 30 cuts 63% of the glare, which makes a real difference on rooms that face the ocean or the bay. SPe Lite 70 is chosen for clarity, so it cuts less glare; it is the better fit when heat and UV are the problem and the view has to stay untouched.
A reflective film like DR OptiTune 30 makes it much harder to see in during the day, which helps on homes close to the street, the beach or a busy path. At night, when the lights are on inside, the effect reverses, so rooms that need privacy after dark still need shades.
Our films block 99% of UV, the main cause of fading. Visible light and heat also contribute, so film slows fading a great deal rather than stopping it completely. More on film and fading.
It depends on the glass area, the film, the number of individual panes and how easy the glass is to reach. The on-site quote is free, and afterwards we send a detailed written proposal with a fixed price.
Every residential film carries a lifetime manufacturer warranty against bubbling, peeling, cracking, delamination and color change. Our installation is warranted as well.
